early 80s fantasy revisited

I don’t know how it slipped through the cracks in my various movie queues, but I finally watched Dragonslayer last month.

While clearly akin to other 80s Fantasy like Clash of the Titans, Krull, Neverending Story and (*gasp*) Legend, it manages to avoid some of the others’ worst excesses.

Mainly it comes down to a surprisingly good script. It’s certainly not the acting or special effects that put this movie over. Recommended for historical curiosity value only.
