This is clown comedy; a gentler, modernized version of À nous la liberté. It is extremely light, with almost no storyline. That it is told from a child's viewpoint is obvious from the title; it is structured as a Saturday morning cartoon, just a string of gags. I used to love those cartoons, but I just don't find them engaging anymore — I need belly laughs, more story, fully-developed characters. For its genre, though, Mon Oncle is very good, noticeably more sophisticated than Chaplin.
