free the river

There's a new book out by Oxford Press called The Battle Over Hetch Hetchy: America's Most Controversial Dam and the Birth of Modern Environmentalism, by Robert W. Righter. I'm probably not going to have time to read it, but I did browse the pretty pictures. One in particular, Figure 9, is almost identical to this photo I took last June, except there is an idyllic river valley in the foreground, rather than three hundred feet of water and a spillway. Check it out sometime.
