In some ways it is a mediocre movie. The story goes nowhere, dragging on and generally tired. The pace is too slow, silent filler shots extended for no good reason. This is noticeable because the protagonists are not easy to sympathize with.

On the other hand, the situations presented feel genuine. The acting is good — especially Amy Adams, who is the real star of the movie. In her own loveable way, she is every bit as good as fellow Best Supporting Actress nominee Michelle Williams in Brokeback Mountain. She almost pulled the movie up to 4 stars — almost.
