Winner of the 1995 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, although search me as to why. The movie is ludicrously left-wing, positing a Platonic, all-single-mother commune as the cure to all life's evils. It skips from decade to decade, not stopping long enough to develop characters, give a sense of rural Dutch life, or present conflicts that might constitute a real storyline. Even the lesbian sex scene disappoints.
