Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears (Moskva slezam ne verit) (1979)

Like all reviews of this movie, I must start by pointing out that, despite the title and year, this is not a spy/war/propaganda movie, but a gentle romantic drama. The protagonists are a sort of Communist Laverne & Shirley, trying to get ahead and snag the perfect guy in Moscow of 1958. Sounds pretty fluffy, but the story deepens at the halfway point, where it begins to resemble Kramer vs. Kramer, in both subject matter and quality of filmmaking.
