love and marriage

Divorce, Italian Style (Divorzio all'italiana) (1961)
4 Stars
Starring Marcello Mastroianni
A lighthearted look at murdering your wife (i.e., divorce, Italian style). Fine cast, including the priest from Cinema Paradiso, and solid editing and cinematography, but the main strength is the screenplay, which won an Oscar.

Eternal Love (1929)
2 Stars
Directed by Ernst Lubitsch
Starring John Barrymore
Late silent about lovers in a Swiss village, featuring some nice shots of the Canadian Rockies. Unusual for Lubitsch, in that it is a serious melodrama. Overacting typical of the silent era, but otherwise sophisticated by 1929 standards.

Tillie's Punctured Romance (1914)
1 Star
Starring Charlie Chaplin, Marie Dressler, Mabel Normand
Marie slightly funny; Charlie and Mabel cute; Keystone Kops korny. Only reason to watch is it's the very first feature-length comedy.
