mamet laughs!

State and Main is David Mamet's take on 8½, Day for Night, Stardust Memories, and Irma Vep - the movie-production-is-a-circus piece. Except Mamet, of all people, managed to inject some genuine humor and charm into his mental-masturbatory-masterpiece. (I have to admit, I laughed at the "old, funny, movies" refrain in Stardust Memories.)

Especially winning are David Paymer as the hard-nosed producer, and Rebecca Pidgeon as the loveable doormat.
