second word from Klaus

Klaus has posted preliminary MTF measurements for 35mm and 55mm.

If I interpret his comments correctly, wide open at both 35mm and 55mm, the Canon is sharper at 70% from the center than the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 is in the center. At the center at 35mm f/2.8, this would be the highest MTF of all EOS-mount zoom lenses or non-L primes he's ever tested. If the numbers are accurate, it would actually be a hair sharper in the corners, both wide open and stopped down, than the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L! The Canon is also sharper than the Sigma stopped down at these focal lengths.

Interestingly, putting aside his cautious disclaimer to avoid comparing numbers across manufacturers, the numbers are remarkably close to those of Nikon's 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VR at similar focal lengths and apertures.

So far, these findings confirm Canon's MTF chart, which is good news to me.
